Clip

The clips that were shown on the blog were very interesting to watch and actually very educational. Most poeple who see things like that think "oh my God, how disgusting", but i'm almost positive when others our traditions, they probably think the same thing. Every culture has their own traditions and many of which are "absurd" to others, whether be cutting of the skin, rings around ones neck, huge earings in ones ears, men having authority over women, getting a drivers liscense, chopping off a body part and sacrificing it, etc. After watching these clips I've come to realize that there are so many people in this world that we are so blind to and it just shows how ignorant we really are. I do hate to see how torture and pain is a part of their growing up, like the fact that boys have to go through a bloody process with humiliation and the cries of their mother to become men, but at the end to them, it is all worth it and that is all that matters to them. Seeing women in another culture having to wear rings around their neck as a sign of purity is very different but for those who do wear it is a symbol of pride. Cultures all around the world as well as religions have their own way of doing things dealing with symbolism and meaning. I am not going to lie, I am very grateful to be who I am and live where I live. I'm not trying to downgrade anyone, I just find it emotionally and physically excrutiating, but it just goes to show just how much strenth one can have if they put their mind to it.

FREEDOM

The definition of freedom is the state of being free or at liberty rather than in confinement or under physical restraint, exemption from external control, interference, regulation, etc., the power to determine action without restraint and the political or national independence. When someone thinks of the word freedom, they think of freedom in America, freedom in politics, speech, religion, etc. I simply typed the word freedom on google and not one weblink described a young adults freedom. Yes, I have all those freedoms in America, but I have something more. After going from highschool to college, I've realized not that they're different, but how different they really are. Besides the classes and teachers and after school activities, there's freedom. I'm sort of talking about independence in a way that independence is when we're on our own, no teacher to call our parents, no attendance and constantly watching over us, college is one step closer to the real world. Freedom is now given to us, letting us choose our own classes and teachers, coming and going as we please and in this class alone, being able to express our opinions and write freely, being able to have our own voice in our papers. Freedom in college sometimes also means freedom in the house, whether one lives in a dorm or with their parents, studying is on their own time, going out is more open and just as tasha said, more responsibilities. Now our lives begin and now we finally get to find out who we are and what we want to do in the future, in the real world, step by step our character is coming into play. Freedom has many paths, choose the best.

Cloning

Cloning is now becoming a very big issue. Originally, scientists wanted to use cloning to aid others, for example, is someone lost an arm, they would get a duplicate as a replacement, but it was just too dificult. Now, they're thinking of using cloning to chose whether you want your child to be sporty or smart or goodlooking, etc. There are many issues about cloning and also many risks. There's a very high failure rate, problems in the child in the future with development and gene patterns. I agree with cloning only if it mandatory and if it is for good and helping others with infertility problems, but I do not agree at all if it is to change something about your child. Not only should one be thankful, but it can really harm the child and cause eternal damage. I just can not wait to see what scientists have for us in the future.

Nicaragua

Wow....to be very honest, I had no idea Nicaragua was such a poor country. Seeing those children living next to the dump with no homes or families is devastating. To hear that kids have to collect things from the trash in such harsh weather and conditions to sell, just to eat and survive is unbelievable. We truly do take things for granted in this world. We don't realize how much we have and what we should be thankful for. Education is practically being thrown at us while they can't even read or write because it's been so long. It's just sad to know that society knows about all this and don't do much about it. Being from a different country, I know that Nicaragua is not the only poor country, Egypt as well had homeless and much worse. People always say they feel horrible and it's such a hurtful sight but don't do anything about it, we barely help the poor in America, let alone other countries. I just think this world is sad.
